Student Volunteers and Travel Scholarships
Thanks to the generosity and sponsorship of the National Science Foundation and IEEE,
we have a limited number of scholarships to award to students to assist with travel and accommodation costs.
Minor volunteer work may be asked from some of these students (handing-in mics during Q&A periods, or help with early morning registrations).
The amount of each scholarship is not yet determined and depends on the number of applicants and last minute donations.
We encourage applications from students from a wide variety of institutions, diverse backgrounds, and first time attendees.
Due to restrictions on the travel sponsorship, the majority of travel grants will be given to students enrolled in U.S. institutions, but we also have funds to cover the participation of a limited number of students from international institutions. Undergraduate and graduate students will be considered.
To apply for a scholarship, students should send the following to Mayank Varia,
Luca Mariot and
Kaitai Liang:
- Name and affiliation of student.
- Name and affiliation of advisor/supervisor.
- Brief description of the travel budget (e.g., approximate air fare, and accommodation).
- Student's vita
- Brief letter from the student stating why the student believes he or she would benefit from attending CSF. It should include
- A brief summary of research interests and accomplishments to date;
- A description of areas reflected in the symposium program that would impact the student's research; and
- Why attendance of CSF is important to this student.
- Brief letter of support from advisor/supervisor indicating why the advisor believes the student would benefit from attending the conference and confirming that the student is a Ph.D. candidate in good standing. This letter can be sent directly to Mayank Varia,
Luca Mariot and
Kaitai Liang, and should include
- The advisor’s view on the suitability of CSF program material to the student's research area;
- Ways this particular student would benefit from attending CSF; and
- The advisor's opinion about the strengths and potential contributions of the student.
The deadline for applications is May 17, 2024, AoE June 2, 2024 AoE (Extended).
Applicants will be informed whether they received a scholarship, the amount, and what will be expected from them, by
June 3, 2024, AoE June 7, 2024, AoE.
Awardees will have to register and pay upfront for all expenses, and then send scanned copies of all their receipts by email. They will then be reimbursed after the symposium for their expenses, up to the amount awarded for their travel scholarship.
